FMD Investigation Training Course for Southern Africa

Are you a veterinarian from Southern Africa and interested in learning how to investigate and control outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease?

The FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa and the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease invite you to take part in the first online course to be launched through a new Virtual Learning Center initiative.

The online Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) Investigation Training Course involves twelve hours of interactive e-learning content studied over a four week period. The course will begin on 15th April 2020.
The course will be tutored by international FMD experts and provides a unique opportunity to discuss all aspects of foot-and-mouth disease outbreak investigation with colleagues from around the world.

Who is the course for?

Veterinarians who are involved in diagnosing and investigating outbreaks of FMD. The course is suitable for veterinarians working at field, regional, laboratory or central level.

 What does the course cover?

  • FMD aetiology and pathogenesis
  • Clinical diagnosis, lesion ageing
  • FMD epidemiology, outbreak investigation
  • Biosecurity
  • Vaccines and vaccination for FMD
  • Introduction to the Progressive Control Pathway
How to apply

Places will be allocated on a first-come first served basis, with a quota system applied to ensure even participation from countries across Southern Africa. To apply to join the course, please complete the form below.
