Launch of local honey brand

Westale is set to launch a commercially sustainable brand of the best quality locally produced honey for domestic and regional markets. Working alongside Windward Commodities, the partnership will create intellectual property and brands for commodity producers and invest in the development of a world-class brand for Zimbabwean honey.

Westale has engaged Thornwood Trading who bring along their vast field experience to cover training, and project development to partner as Supply Chain Management Partner. They will establish the quality and quantity standards for honey to support Westale Trading, and enable a contract farming approach in the honey production value chain.

Through this project, a formal honey processing centre will be established in Harare through this food processing partnership that will provide management expertise, systems and working capital to the honey value chain involving smallholder farmers. Environment Africa will support the identification and organization of farmers and bee-keepers for training, and the facilitation of effective independent farmer-run groups for sustainable and profitable production.

The project has strong support from the Ministry of Agriculture, who will provide independent support services for the establishment of standards and organic certification as required to ensure recognition of the quality and origin of the honey.
